“He should not seize a mill or a millstone” (Dr.24:6)—
I might infer only that
the rule applies
to a mill or a millstone.
How do I know to include
any tool [essential to one’s livelihood]?
The Teaching states:
“For it is like seizing his livelihood” (Dt.24:6).
If so, why is it stated:
“A mill or a millstone” (Dt.24:6)?
Just as a mill and millstone are distinctive,
in that they are two tools
that facilitate a single process,
and one is liable for replacing
this one by itself and that one by itself,
so, too, all tools
that facilitate a single process—
one is liable for replacing
this one by itself and that one by itself.2

“For it is like seizing his livelihood” (Dt.24:6)—
this explains the reason for the rule.
