Faculty Profile

Kathryn McConaughy Medill is a scholar of the Hebrew Bible and the ancient Middle East who completed her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible and Northwest Semitic Languages and Literatures at Johns Hopkins. She taught at Johns Hopkins University, Towson University, and Eastern University before joining the faculty at UW in 2022.

Medill specializes in statistical approaches to Semitic linguistics as well as in the socio-historical development of scribal norms in the Hebrew Bible and other ancient Semitic literatures. Classes taught (or to be taught) at UW include Elementary Biblical Hebrew I, II, and III; Introduction to the Hebrew Bible; Introduction to the Ancient Near East; Myths from the World of the Bible; Royal Literature in the Bible and the Ancient Near East; Death and the Afterlife in the Ancient Near East; Wisdom Literature in the Bible and the Ancient Near East; From Israelites to Jews (604-4 BCE); and more.
